  • worked on a factors and multiples review
  • worked on the second draft of our persuasive essays

   Today we:

  • started the morning with Choice Writing stations
  • read two chapter from Keeper of the Lost Cities by Shannon Messenger, the first chapter was too much of a cliffhanger to end off on
  • had 30 minutes of Reading Race time while Mrs. Bradley met with students for fluency work
  • continued working on our initial drafts of our persuasive essays
  • worked on our Social Studies project, finishing up our by-laws to help our community run smoothly and safely and starting our presentation slides to promote our community
  • did more work with factor trees, identifying prime factors
  • had French class

  • had some catch up time to finish missing work
  • worked on our initial drafts of our persuasive essays
  • worked on our Social Studies project, creating by-laws to help our community run smoothly and safely
  • learned about how to use a factor tree to identify the prime factors of a number

  • went to the library to renew and exchange novels for our Reading Race
  • worked on our Social Studies project, we completed our budgets for our services and property taxes and began creating by-laws for our communities
  • learned about prime and composite numbers
  • went to French class
  • learned about the Greek roots graph/gram and found words that use that root

  • went outside for an extra morning recess when we needed a body break
  • learned the Greek root word bio, and defined it
  • learned about how local governments are structured and how people can be elected as mayors or councillors
  • had time for our Reading Race while Mrs. Bradley met with a guided reading group
  • did group revision and editing of our whole class persuasive essay
  • had Choice Writing time
  • continued working with Factor rainbows to identify the GCF (greatest common factor) of a set of numbers
  • practiced our song for the Remembrance Day assembly and took some time to learn about what the highway of heroes is

  • worked on creating a group graphic organizer for a whole class persuasive essay, we also wrote the first draft of an essay together

  • used Factor rainbows to identify the GCF (greatest common factor) of a set of numbers

  • learned about the Greek root word "auto"
  • looked at an exemplar of a persuasive essay and used a graphic organizer to determine the argument, the three main reasons, and the supporting details
  • learned how to use factor rainbows to identify all the factors of a number, after doing questions together on white boards we moved to independent practice on a worksheet.

  • started learning about finding the factors for a number
  • took notes on how local governments get money for services and began learning about by-laws
  • had free choice activities or basketball in the gym
  • worked on the Reading Race while Mrs. Bradley and Ms. Sid met with small groups for vocabulary and phonics support
  • voted on a song for the Remembrance Day assembly
  • had a practice lockdown with the Calgary Police Service
  • started talking about persuasive writing, we are beginning a persuasive essay assignment this week
  • had a quiz for Figurative language.
  • had a whole Grade 6 meeting about using kind and appropriate language at school, there have been complaints that some students have been using racist and pejorative language, so we explained expectations and how to show respect at Acadia School

  • had a First Chapter Friday read-aloud, we read The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan
  • went to the Awesome Acadia Assembly, someone from our class got their first puzzle piece for kindness
  • worked on using LCM (least common multiples) to solve real-life problems, we did some together as a class and then worked in pairs or on our own on solving word problems
  • took notes on the different kinds of services that are provided by local governments in Alberta
  • had combined Grade 6 gym class
  • had a sharing circle to end the week

  • started our Local Government unit, we learned about the different kinds of local governments in Alberta and who their leaders are

  • had vaccines, this definitely threw off our morning so we had an hour of quiet time with review games on Prodigy while we waited for our classmates to be done
  • wrote paragraphs, focusing on using proper paragraph structure
  • worked on our Great Reading Race
  • finished our dichotomous key assignments from yesterday
  • played a Kahoot to review Trees and Forests concepts for our test next Tuesday
